City of Osh, member of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) was designated as “Cultural Capital of Turkic World 2019”. Osh was declared as a Cultural Capital of Turkic World 2019 at 36th Term Meeting of Permanent Council of Ministers of Turkish Culture Organization held in Kastamonu Historical Kurşunlu Han on 18 December 2018.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, stated in his speech at the closing session of 36th Term Meeting of Culture Ministers Permanent Council that coordination duty was delivered to Kyrgyzstan. Ersoy also posited that following meeting will be held in Osh city of Kyrgyzstan and he added that “The concept of the following year becomes the Year of Aşık Veysel and related congress, activities and workshop will be organized within this framework”.

At the end of the program, attendance plaques were presented to the representatives of Turkish World who participated to the program with Minister Ersoy.

About Osh City

Osh is located at the south of Fergana Valley and named as “the capital of south” and the second biggest city of Kyrgyzstan. The population of Osh is about 1 million and consisted of respectively Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Russian and Tajik. The city has 3000 years history and also is a trade city of Central Asia. Osh’s neighbors are Uzbekistan in the north, Tajikistan to the southwest and China to the southeast. Suleiman Mountain which was taken in the list of World Heritage List of UNESCO in 2009 is also located in Osh City and this mountain is known by Prophet Suleiman’s resting and praying place during his travels. Moreover, the footprints in a small cell on the slope of the mountain are believed to belong to the Prophet Suleiman.
