Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) Palestine member Abasan Al-Kabira’s Mayor Dr. Anwar Abu-Zarifa visited TDBB on March 5, 2021. At the meeting held with Secretary General of TDBB Fahri Solak at the Union’s Headquarters, the cooperation of a sister city relationship between Abasan Al-Kabira Municipality and the municipalities of Turkey and the opportunities for joint projects were evaluated.
Abu Zarifa stated that Abasan Al-Kabira is a municipality with a population of thirty thousand in the Gaza region and one of the important livelihoods is olive cultivation. Therefore, they want to establish a sister city relationship with cities with similar agricultural activities in Turkey, stating that they expect support from TDBB for this issue. He also gave information about the olive pressing facility project of Abasan Al-Kabira Municipality and stated that they expect support for this project.
At the meeting, Fahri Solak thanked him for his visit and informed him about TDBB’s activities in Palestine and stated that there are currently 33 member municipalities from Palestine, and that there are many sister municipalities in Turkey. Expressing satisfaction with working closely with Palestine, Solak stated that the process on finding a sister city with similar agricultural characteristics from Turkey for Abasan al-Kabira municipality will be carried out, and after the establishment of sister city relations, joint projects can be done with these sister cities. Regarding the olive squeezing facility, he stated that the project will be evaluated in TDBB Administrative Board after it is sent in written document.
