Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) has brought the book “Uzbekistan in Turkish Press in the 30th Year of Independence”, which will contribute to the analysis of relations with friendly and brotherly country Uzbekistan, to publication life.
The micro-historical work, in which the news about Uzbekistan, that which place in the mainstream newspapers of the Turkish Press for a period of 30 years between 1991 and 2021, was compiled, has the quality of being a source for researchers. The book is based on the archive created by Marmara University Faculty Member Fahri Solak, who prepared the work, with personal interest and opportunities that began in the early 1990s. The book also includes a foreword that summarizes the course of Uzbekistan-Turkey relations based on the news.
In the book, attention is drawn to the fact that the newspaper news about Uzbekistan is mainly about the mutual visits of the Presidents or high-level political contacts. Articles and news about the historical cities of Uzbekistan, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Uzbek cuisine are also among the prominent topics. It is noteworthy that among the writers of these serials, which were broadcast in the early 1990s, well-known journalists of the period such as Mehmet Turgut, Nur Batur, Cengiz Çandar, Bilal N. Şimşir, Fuat Bozkurt, Ardan Zentürk, as well as Bülent Ecevit took place. When it comes to 2021, news about international events such as “Turkic Council Leaders’ Summit” and “Korkut Ata Turkic World Film Festival” held in Turkey are widely covered.
In the work, the course and content of Turkish-Uzbek relations can be followed with their reflections on newspaper news. As a result of the increasing bilateral relations in 2016 and later, it is seen that the news about Uzbekistan takes place more in the Turkish press. Considering the quantity and quality of the news, it is also possible to follow the topics that focus attention on Turkish – Uzbek relations. In the study, it is stated that the developments regarding Uzbekistan are not sufficiently covered in the Turkish press and that news-comment writing is open to the approaches and guidance of international agencies.
The 280-page work was published as a large-size and 4-colour prestige book.
