Under the coordination of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), the protocol for cooperation in various areas of local administration between the Union of Turkish Cyprus Municipalities (KTBB) and the Union of Azerbaijan City Municipalities (AŞBMA) was signed in Kyrenia on Friday 27 September 2024.
The signing ceremony was attended by TRNC Minister of Internal Affairs Dursun Oğuz, President of Union of Turkish Cyprus Municipalities and Mayor of Güzelyurt Mahmut Özçınar, President of Union of Azerbaijan City Municipalities and Mayor of Narimanov Tamraz Taghiyev, Azerbaijani delegation Mayor of Nesimi Aziz Zeynalov, Mayor of Sumqayıt Orkhan Adigozelzade, Mayor of Kepez Yashar Abdullayev, Union of Azerbaijan City Municipalities External Relations Manager Amrah Imanov, Union of Azerbaijan City Municipalities External Relations Advisor Rovshan Mammadov and mayors from the TRNC.
The protocol signed by the Union of Turkish Cyprus Municipalities and Mayor of Güzelyurt Mahmut Özçınar, and the President of the Union of Azerbaijani City Municipalities and Mayor of Narimanov Tamraz Taghiyev, envisages the establishment and maintenance of effective and systematic consultation and information exchange between the local administrations of the two countries under the coordination of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB).
Özçınar: It is the First Official Visit of the Azerbaijani Delegation to the TRNC
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mahmut Özçınar emphasized that the signed protocol was created under the coordination of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) to accelerate the work aimed at developing social, cultural, economic and experience sharing and to popularize sister municipalities, and that the protocol signed with the Union of Azerbaijan City Municipalities was a first in the history of the TRNC.
Taghiyev: Each Turkish State is Our Life
President of the Union of Azerbaijani City Municipalities and Mayor of Narimanov, Tamraz Taghiyev expressed his happiness to be in the TRNC and to sign such a cooperation protocol and wished for the continuation of these protocols and sister city relations.
Oğuz: Protocol is also important for the International Recognition of the TRNC
TRNC Minister of Internal Affairs Dursun Oğuz, who attended the signing ceremony, pointed out the importance of the protocol signed between the Union of Turkish Cyprus Municipalities and the Union of Azerbaijani City Municipalities, and said that this was also important for the international recognition of the TRNC.
Within the framework of the cooperation protocol, experience sharing and expert exchange programs will be carried out between the local governments of the TRNC and Azerbaijan in order to cooperate in areas such as education, health, youth and sports, tourism, protection of historical and cultural heritage, environment, energy, culture and art, infrastructure and superstructure, technical and humanitarian aid, information technologies and transportation, and projects deemed appropriate by both parties will be implemented together.
During its visit to the TRNC, the delegation of the Union of City Municipalities of Azerbaijan (AŞBMA) also visited and held meetings with the Vice President, the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic Zorlu Töre and the Minister of Finance Dr. Özdemir Berova.
