Local elections were held on October 06, 2024 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a member of Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB). In the local elections, TDBB Executive Board Member Mayor of Novi Grad Semir Efendic was re-elected as mayor.

According to the data of the Central Election Board (CIK), the participation rate in the elections was 47.73% in the country where there are 3 million 400 thousand 204 registered voters. In the local elections held in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2020, the participation rate was 49.30%.

In the local elections, 143 mayors and 3,200 councillors were elected in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and Republika Srpska (RS), the two entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Brcko Region with special status. In the elections, where municipal council members were also determined, 110 political parties, 76 independent candidates, 58 alliances, 9 lists of independents and 43 minority representation candidates participated. A total of 26,89 candidates competed in the elections, 425 of whom ran for mayor.

Meanwhile, by decision of the Central Electoral Commission (CIK), local elections in Jablanica, Konjic, Kiseljak, Fojnica and Kresevo, which were adversely affected by floods caused by heavy rains, were postponed to a later date.

In the capital Sarajevo, a coalition of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Our Party (Nasha Stranka-NS), and People and Justice (NiP) parties won the Sarajevo municipalities of Stari Grad, Centar, Novo Sarajevo, Ilijash and Ilica. SDA won the municipalities of Hadzici and Trnovo.

The elections in Srebrenica, located in the east of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the genocide against Muslim Bosniaks was committed in July 1995, have been in the center of public attention this year. Miloš Vučić (SNSD), the joint candidate of the Serb parties in Srebrenica, won the mayorship in Srebrenica. The rival candidate nominated by the pro-Bosniak parties was Hamdija Fejzic. In this year’s local elections, many people from Serbia again traveled to Srebrenica to vote.
