“International Urban Forum 2024,” supported by Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), was held in the capital city Bishkek between 16-18 October 2024 with the participation of representatives from Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, France, Germany, USA and other countries.
The forum was attended by Mayor of Bağcılar Abdullah Özdemir, Mayor of Başiskele Mehmet Yasin Özlü, Mayor of Gebze Zinnur Büyükgöz and TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak on behalf of TDBB.
The forum was organized in collaboration with Bishkek Metropolitan Municipality, “Move Green” Association, Union of Local Governments of Kyrgyzstan, and Development Policy Institute.
The forum was held with the participation of mayors from 33 cities of Kyrgyzstan, along with international and local experts, to discuss urbanization issues and propose effective solutions for sustainable development.
The forum was attended by Union of Turkish World Municipalities, Union of Russian Cities, Eurasia Regional Branch of the “United Cities and Local Governments” World Organization in Kazan, Union of Local Governments of Kazakhstan, and other international organizations. The event will contribute to strengthening cooperation between cities and developing new strategies for sustainable growth.
Within the framework of the forum, expert sessions were held to discuss the national characteristics of urbanization and sustainable development goals. The forum was conducted in a hybrid format, providing participants with the opportunity to discuss proposals for addressing global climate challenges, solving urban issues, and sharing the best international practices for building secure, digitalized smart cities.
On the second day of the forum, from the Union of Turkish World Municipalities delegation, Mayor of Bağcılar (Istanbul) Abdullah Özdemir made a presentation on “Urban Transformation and Mass Housing Projects in Turkey”, Mayor of Başiskele (Kocaeli) Mehmet Yasin Özlü on “Social Municipality and Local Development Services in Turkey”, Mayor of Gebze (Kocaeli) Zinnur Büyükgöz on “Urban Planning in Turkey” and TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak on “Establishment, Objectives and Activities of TDBB”.
CORPORATE VISITS
TDBB delegation, who was in Kyrgyzstan on the occasion of the Urban Forum, visited Union of Kyrgyzstan Local Governments, which is a member of TDBB Administrative Board, Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Bishkek, the Maarif Foundation Bishkek Education Complex and Roza Otunbaeva Foundation, one of TDBB’s Cooperation Organizations in Kyrgyzstan, and met with the managers of these institutions.
